How to prepare the wings for this recipe
We sell our wings with the tips removed, but still intact together in the “v” shape. We leave them like this to keep things easy, but you can separate them if you prefer. Or some packs at the grocery store will already come separated. If you are local in Iowa you can purchase wings from us here at Pleasant Grove Homestead with the link below!
Why use corn starch on wings
Using corn starch helps create the crispiest wings! Thanks to the addition of corn starch the honey coated wings stay crispy. The butter mixture is added halfway through so the chicken skin has time to crisp up and yield delicious crispy wings. Be sure to not skip the step of drying the wings before adding the corn starch so that it will stick to the skin.
Recipe variations
We love the simple wing sauce of honey and butter because it is something that the adults and kids both love! Sometimes we like to add a teaspoon of curry powder for a boost of flavor. Or if you’d like you could add some garlic powder or a dash or hot sauce or red pepper flakes for some heat.
Tools to make this recipe
The only thing needed for this recipe is a 9×13 pan to roast the wings in. You can find all of our favorite kitchen utensils in this blog post, including our favorite cutting board and knife!

How to make Honey Baked Chicken Wings
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
First, drain all the liquid from the wings. We like to add them to a colander, but you can also dab them with paper towels. This is important to ensure the cornstarch sticks to the wings and that they get crispy.
In a large bowl, toss together the dry chicken wings and cornstarch. Place wings in a 9×13 glass baking dish in a single layer and bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven.
At 30 minutes, take the wings out of the oven and flip the wings. Melt the butter in a small saucepan or in the microwave. In a small bowl combine melted butter, honey, and salt and pepper. Cover the wings with the honey butter mixture.
Add back to the oven to continue baking for 20 more minutes. Flip again to get even crispness.
Remove from the oven after 50 minutes total baking time, or until they are crispy all over, golden brown and the internal temperature is 165 degrees.
Serve by themselves or with your favorite dipping sauce and a side of carrots and celery.
How to store leftovers
To store leftover wings add to an airtight container and store in the fridge for 3-4 days. To reheat add to a 350 degree oven for 5-10 minutes or until heated through and skin is crispy.
