Oven-roasted cabbage steaks is a simple recipe that has a natural sweetness, and is so delicious! It is a great way to use cabbage from the farmers market or your CSA box. These thick cabbage slices make a great side dish for a variety of meals and are so easy to make.
1Tlard or tallowor increase oven temp to 375 if you are using butter.
2clovesminced garlic
.5 t salt
.5 t pepper
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350F degrees.
First, you will need to cut the whole head of cabbage into one-inch-thick slices. Prepare the cabbage by removing the outer leaves that are wilted or discolored.
Then, using a sharp knife cut the bottom core off of the cabbage. Then continue to slice your "steaks" from that side so that they will stay together.
Add your cabbage steaks to a rimmed baking sheet with either foil or parchment paper and place in a single layer. If your lard is still solid, you can just plop it all over the sheet pan and then sprinkle the seasoning over the cabbage.
Cover with aluminum foil and then add to your preheated 350F oven for 40 minutes or until you can easily pierce the cabbage with a fork.
